Indian citizenship given for the first time under CAA in India, certificates given to 14 people
Today, for the first time after the notification of the Citizenship Amendment Act was issued, citizenship certificates were handed over to 14 people. With this, the process of giving Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan has started.
According to the information, Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla handed over certificates to 14 people after their applications were processed online through a portal. Besides, important points about the Citizenship Amendment Act were also told to the applicants. Many senior officials including Secretary, Post, Director and Registrar General of India were present on this occasion.
People of which countries will get citizenship?
Through the Citizenship Amendment Act, refugees belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Christian and Parsi religions from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be given Indian citizenship. According to the law, only those who came and settled in India before December 31, 2014, will be given citizenship.
