Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has announced his retirement from international football. He said that he will play his last match against Kuwait on June 6. Chhetri shared this information by releasing a video on his social media account.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tweeted on Sunil Chhetri’s decision to retire from international football. The board wrote, “Your career has been nothing short of extraordinary and you have been a phenomenal icon for Indian football and Indian sports.”
Sunil Chhetri started his international career in 2005 against Pakistan. He is the fourth player to score the most international goals (94). He is the third player to score the most international goals among active players after Cristiano Ronaldo, Ali Daei and Lionel Messi. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2011 and the Padma Shri in 2019.
