Thailand Open: Satwik-Chirag pair’s brilliant campaign continues, makes it to the quarter-finals
India’s top men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s impressive run continued at the Thailand Open Super 500 badminton tournament as the pair entered the quarterfinals on Thursday. Apart from Satwik-Chirag, young Indian player Meiraba Luwang Maisnam also managed to reach the last-16.
Satwik-Chirag beat Shei-Zheng pair
The world number three Indian pair of Satwik and Chirag defeated 69th ranked Shei Sao Nan and Zheng Wei Han 21-16, 21-11 in their second round match. The Asian Games gold medal winning Indian pair will face Malaysian pair of Junaid Arif and Roy King Yap in the next round.
Ashmita Chaliha’s journey ends
Even though India won in the men’s singles and doubles category, Ashmita Chaliga had to face defeat in a close match in the women’s singles category. Ashmita lost 15-21, 21-12, 12-21 against top seed Han Yui of China. In mixed doubles, the pair of Satish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath lost 10-21, 17-21 against the pair of Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.
