Honey trap for Indian intelligence, many accused in Navy espionage case on NIA’s radar

Pakistani intelligence agency ISI is conspiring to trap Indian Navy personnel in honey trap to obtain secret information of Indian defense establishments. In the Visakhapatnam espionage case related to this, now the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Mumbai resident Aman Salim Sheikh.

Chargesheet against Salim Sheikh

The NIA has filed a chargesheet against Aman Salim Sheikh, a key accused of the Pakistani intelligence agency honey-trapping Indian Navy personnel to collect confidential information related to defence establishments, an official statement said on Friday. It said the anti-terror agency filed a supplementary chargesheet against Sheikh on Thursday in the NIA special court in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Three arrested so far in espionage case

The NIA arrested Aman Salim Sheikh on November 20 last year in Mumbai. Including Sheikh, the total number of accused arrested in the case has now gone up to three. The NIA has already filed a chargesheet against a total of four people, including two absconding Pakistani operatives. On November 6 last year, the NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet against two other accused Manmohan Surendra Panda and Alven.

The anti-terror agency on Friday filed a supplementary chargesheet in the NIA special court in Visakhapatnam, charging Aman, a resident of Mumbai (Maharashtra), under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA, which took over the case on June 5 last year, found during its investigation that Aman was working for a suspected Pakistani agent Usman to further the anti-India conspiracy.

He was also receiving money from other suspected Pakistani operatives including Mir Balaj Khan, Alwane and some other individuals through crypto channels for carrying out tasks assigned by Pakistani intelligence agencies.

On November 6, 2023, the NIA filed a chargesheet against two accused in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway in the case initially registered at the Counter Intelligence Cell Police Station, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
