Last respects to the colonel who lost his life in Gaza, Kale’s body is being brought to India

The Indian Embassy here as well as the United Nations and Israeli government officials on Friday paid tributes to Colonel Vaibhav Anil Kale, a former Indian Army officer who lost his life in Gaza. Kale (46) was on his way to the European Hospital in Rafah in a vehicle of the global body along with other staff of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) on Monday morning when he came under attack and lost his life.

Tributes paid to Colonel Kale

The Indian Embassy posted on social media platform ‘X’ that the mortal remains of Colonel Kale are being flown to India. Posting some pictures of the tribute ceremony, the embassy said, “Officials of the Embassy as well as officials from the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel Defense Forces and UNDSS and other organizations of the United Nations paid tribute to Colonel Vaibhav Anil Kale (Retd).”Colonel Kale, who took premature retirement from the Indian Army in 2022, was appointed Security Coordination Officer in the United Nations Department of Safety and Security two months ago. He commanded 11 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in Kashmir.

More than 190 UN employees killed

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said in a press conference on Tuesday, “We express our regret and condolences to the government and people of India.” He said, “We appreciate the contribution made by India.” Guterres also expressed his condolences to Kale’s family. He also appealed for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and release of all hostages. He had said that more than 190 UN employees have been killed in Gaza so far.
