Supreme Court seeks reply from Election Commission, the matter is about releasing voting data in 48 hours; now next hearing will be held on this day

The Supreme Court, while giving an urgent hearing on a petition filed by an NGO at 6.30 pm on Friday evening, has sought a reply from the Election Commission within a week. The petition has demanded a direction to upload the data of polling of each phase of Lok Sabha elections on the website of the Election Commission.

Election Commission should be given time: CJI

Earlier in the day, lawyer Prashant Bhushan had urged the apex court to hear the petition today itself. The apex court bench sat for hearing in the evening after the program organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association to bid farewell to Justice AS Bopanna was over. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud justified the Election Commission’s request for time to respond to the petition. The bench said that the Election Commission should be given some time to respond to the petition.

False allegations have been made in the petition: EC’s lawyer

With this, the apex court listed the petition for hearing before the appropriate bench during the summer vacation on May 24, a day before the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. During the brief hearing, senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for the Election Commission, said that the NGO Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has made absolutely false allegations in the petition.

Apart from this, another bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna has settled some issues. This issue is also part of the current case.
