Fifth phase voting and faces of popular candidates, from Rahul Gandhi to Chirag Paswan

In view of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the fifth phase of voting is to be held on May 20. Earlier today the election campaign had ended. Let us tell you that in this phase, voting will be held for 49 seats in 8 states. In the seats where voting is to be held in the fifth phase, in the year 2019, an average of 62.01 percent votes were cast. The highest turnout during that period was in West Bengal at 80.13 percent. The lowest voting percentage was in Jammu and Kashmir at 34.6 percent. With the completion of the fifth phase of voting, the process of voting on a total of 428 seats will end. Let us tell you that in the fifth phase, many famous faces are in the electoral fray, whose credibility is at stake.

Who is contesting the elections from where?

  • Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. Samajwadi Party has made Ravidas Mehrotra its candidate against Rajnath Singh. Let us tell you that Mehrotra, who has been a minister, is currently the SP MLA from Lucknow Central Assembly seat.
  • Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli seat of Uttar Pradesh. Bharatiya Janata Party has declared Dinesh Pratap Singh as its candidate from here. Let us tell you that Sonia Gandhi has given up her seat for her son Rahul Gandhi.
  • Bharatiya Janata Party has made Union Minister Smriti Irani its candidate from Amethi. From here, the Congress party has made KL Sharma, considered close to the Gandhi family, its candidate.
  • Chirag Paswan is contesting from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. On behalf of NDA, LJP (R)’s Chirag Paswan is contesting from this seat. Whereas RJD has made Shivchandra Ram its candidate from Hajipur.
  • Omar Abdullah is contesting from Baramulla seat of Kashmir. Faiyaz Ahmed from Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP is contesting against Omar. In the last election, National Conference’s Akbar Lone had won this seat.
  • Apart from this, many ministers of Modi government are also in the electoral fray in the fifth phase. Piyush Goyal from Mumbai North, Kaushal Kishore from Mohanlalganj, Rajnath Singh from Lucknow, Smriti Irani from Amethi, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti from Fatehpur, Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar from Dindori, Annapurna Devi from Koderma, Kapil Patil from Bhiwandi and Shantanu Thakur from Bangaon. BJP has fielded him.
