Red alert of heat in many states including Delhi-UP-Bihar, warning of heavy rain in Kerala

The India Meteorological Department said on Sunday that at present there is no possibility of relief from the scorching heat. Issuing a red alert in Delhi, the department said that the temperature here can range between 28 to 44 degrees Celsius. Senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that the current situation will continue till next week. “Generally, May is considered to be the hottest month,” he said. If there is no rainfall activity in North India, the temperature normally crosses 45 °C. It is estimated that this situation will continue till next week.”

Red alert of extreme heat in many states

Naresh Kumar further said that this situation will continue for the next 5 days. We have issued red alert in Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. Heatwave conditions will persist in UP for the next 3-4 days. We have also issued orange alert for some states.

The India Meteorological Department said on Saturday that temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius were recorded in parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. IMD said the mercury reached 46.9 degrees Celsius in Barmer, Rajasthan. The temperature in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh was also recorded at 46.9 degrees Celsius. At the same time, in Surendranagar and Deesa of Gujarat, the temperature was recorded between 45 to 45.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Red alert of rain in many districts of Kerala

At the same time, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts of Kerala till May 20 and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Ernakulam districts have been kept under orange alert for the next few days. IMD has issued yellow alert in all other districts of Kerala except Kannur and Kozhikode.

Red alert indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours, while Orange alert means very heavy rainfall (6 cm to 20 cm), while Yellow alert means 6- 11 cm rainfall. . The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice due to strong winds and rough sea conditions.

IMD has issued an alert

The Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has predicted high tidal waves along the coasts of Kerala and south Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The agency said that waves ranging from 0.4 meter to 1.2 meter are expected on the Kerala coast. IMD in its alert has also warned that there is a possibility of storm with strong winds reaching speed of 30-40 kmph at some places in the state between Sunday and May 22.
