Uttarakhand: BJP MLA also opposed the Song Dam project in Khalanga, wrote a letter to the CM, proposed to cut two thousand trees

The proposed case of tree cutting in Khalanga of the capital Dehradun is not coming to a halt. The BJP MLA himself has written a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in this matter and has opposed the cutting of trees in Khalanga. BJP MLA Umesh Sharma (Kau) has made it clear that the drinking water corporation’s irrigation project in Khalanga will be cancelled. This project will not be allowed to be built in Khalanga under any circumstances.

In fact, in view of the shortage of water in Dehradun, the Drinking Water Corporation has decided to build a water treatment plant in about 7 hectares of forest area of Khalanga, for which trees have also been identified in the forests of Khalanga, which will be cut, but the local People have protested in such large numbers against the cutting of trees in the forests of Khalanga.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Raipur Assembly seat Umesh Sharma (Kau) has also expressed his objection in this matter by writing a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and MD of Drinking Water Corporation. MLA Umesh Sharma (Kau) says that this project should be cancelled. This project should not be allowed to be built in Khalanga area at any cost.

Let us tell you that to overcome the shortage of drinking water in Dehradun, Song Dam project is to be constructed, for which the Drinking Water Corporation has identified 7 hectares of land in Khalanga area of Dehradun. With the construction of this project, the shortage of drinking water in Dehradun can be solved.

In this project of three and a half thousand crore rupees, Rs 524 crore is for the drinking water project, for which a water reserve wire is to be built in the high altitude area around Saug Dam, for which the Drinking Water Corporation needs about seven hectares of land, out of which A water treatment plant of 150 MLD will be built on 4.2 hectare land, but the problem for this is that about two thousand trees have to be cut in Khalanga for this project, which is being opposed by the local people and environmentalists.

At the same time, on this whole issue, local MLA Umesh Sharma (Kau) says that the DPR prepared by the authorities for the water treatment plant in Khalanga area is absolutely wrong. Khalanga forest is the lifeline of Raipur and its surrounding areas. Because about 15 tubules are recharged from this area. In such a situation, if such a big plant is set up in this area, then all the water sources will dry up, due to which the entire Dehradun will be affected.

Also said that whoever has identified this place for a water treatment plant, should have discussed it with the public representatives first, but this has not happened. The MLA said that this project will be canceled because under no circumstances will this project be allowed to be built in Khalanga. The entire Dehradun needs water, for the supply of which a water treatment plant should be constructed at some other place.
