Excessive use of social media is harmful for children: Elon Musk

Referring to the negative effects of social media, tech billionaire Elon Musk said on Friday that its excessive use can be harmful for children. He said in a post on X that excessive use of social media is very bad for children.

Recently addressing the VivaTech Fair in Paris virtually, Musk emphasized the impact of social media use by children. He said that social media companies use artificial intelligence (AI) to increase user engagement on the app, which increases the chemical ‘dopamine’ produced by the feeling of happiness in the brain. Children mostly fall prey to this technology.

Musk urged all parents to limit the time children use social media. He said that there is excessive competition among social media AI to increase dopamine. Elon Musk, a father of 9 children, said last year that he has never stopped his children from using social media, but now it seems that this can be a mistake. Meta has also criticized Facebook and Instagram, stating that these platforms have promoted child exploitation through their tools.
