Uttarakhand: Health department will analyze the data of deaths of Chardham pilgrims, 56 people have died so far

The number of deaths of devotees visiting Uttarakhand Chardham Yatra is continuously increasing. The current situation is that the death toll has reached 56. According to the Health Department, all the deaths of devotees so far have happened on the Chardham Yatra route. If we talk about the last 24 hours, four devotees have died in Kedarnath. However, now the government staff is engaged in improving the arrangements on the Chardham Yatra route.

This time the Chardham Yatra has become a big challenge for the government. On one hand, while the government is busy controlling the crowd in Chardham, on the other hand, the number of deaths of devotees is also increasing rapidly. So far 56 people have died in the Chardham Yatra which started on May 10.

Government released the data

According to the information received from the State Emergency Operations Center, 56 devotees have died till 10.30 am on May 25, out of which the maximum number of devotees died in Kedarnath Dham (27), Badrinath Dham (14), Yamunotri Dham (12) and Gangotri Dham (3).

Death Ratio is decreasing

Let us tell you that in the year 2023, about 250 devotees died during the Chardham Yatra. If we talk about the death ratio of the year 2023, it was 4.5 per lakh. At the same time, the death ratio in the year 2022 was 7.5 per lakh. In this way, the number of devotees dying in the Chardham Yatra is decreasing every year. If we talk about the death ratio of this year till now, it is 0.6 per lakh.

25% more medical staff deployed

Uttarakhand’s Director General of Health Dr. Vinita Shah said that this year 25% more medical staff has been deployed in the Chardham Yatra as compared to last year. Keeping in mind the kind of cases that came up last year during the Chardham Yatra, the medical staff has been trained this time and only after that they have been sent to the field. Director General of Health Shah has claimed that there is sufficient medical staff for the Chardham Yatra.

The health department will analyze the entire data related to deaths

Apart from this, Dr. Shah said that a pool of doctors has also been created. If there is a huge crowd of devotees somewhere in the Chardham Yatra, then doctors will be deployed at that place too. At the same time, the health department will analyze the entire data related to the deaths of devotees. So that proper planning can be done in the coming years.

Appeal of the Health Department

Director General of Health Shah said that the health department is trying its best to keep screening the devotees at various places. If some devotees face any problem like BP (blood pressure) etc., then it is controlled by giving medicine. Director General of Health Shah has appealed to the devotees to travel comfortably. If there is any problem during the journey, contact Swasthya Mitra and check your oxygen level. If the oxygen level of any devotee is low, the patient will be admitted to the nearest facility center. Apart from this, devotees can also call toll free number 104 and ask for help.

Most of the cause of death is heart attack

At the same time, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar said that all the devotees who have died on the Chardham Yatra route have been postmortemed. Most of the deceased were over 60 years of age. The cause of death has been revealed to be heart attack and heart failure.

Before the start of Chardham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government had issued health advisory in 14 languages. Along with this, passengers are also informed at the screening points whether they are fit for the journey or not. Some passengers are advised not to do Chardham Yatra, despite this they do not listen to the doctors and go on Chardham Yatra.
