A 25-year-old woman living in Mahoba district of UP got addicted to eating hair. The woman got this strange habit of eating hair when she became pregnant again. However, later she stopped eating hair. But she started having pain in her stomach. When this pain increased beyond limits, the woman went to the doctor. When the doctors did ultrasound, CT scan etc. checkup, they were shocked. Because, the investigation revealed that the woman had a bunch of about two and a half kilos of hair in her stomach.
The family members told that the woman used to eat other people’s hair apart from her own. After delivery, she stopped eating hair. But she started having pain in her stomach. The woman, troubled by stomach pain, was taken by her family to the medical college of Banda district for treatment. She was shown to the doctor there and ultrasound etc. were also done but the patient did not get any relief from the medicines.
In such a situation, the family members took the woman, who was suffering from constant stomach pain, to the famous Janaki Kund Hospital of Chitrakoot, where when senior surgeon Dr. Nirmala Gehani did a serious checkup, a surprising thing came to light. The doctor was stunned during the CT scan because a large clump of hair was present in the woman’s stomach, which was the real reason for the stomach ache.
Due to the habit of eating hair, the woman’s stomach was completely filled with clumps of hair and it had taken the form of a stomach. Due to which the woman was vomiting continuously and she was not able to eat food.
According to Dr. Nirmala Gehani, in such a situation the woman could have died. After an operation that lasted for about 45 minutes, a clump of about two and a half kilograms of hair was removed from the woman’s stomach, only then the woman’s life could be saved.
Giving information about the case, Dr. Nirmala Gehani told that such cases in which women eat hair are called trichomegaly in medical terms. Women who eat hair are often young and are also psychiatric. Usually such cases are very rare.
