BFI: Indian Boxing Federation breaks ties with IBA, joins World Boxing, President confirms
The Indian Boxing Federation on Friday severed ties with the IBA. After this, the BFI joined World Boxing. In fact, the International Olympic Committee had warned months ago that if the national federation remained associated with the International Boxing Association (IBA), then this sport could be removed from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
BFI President Ajay Singh said, “It is important for boxing to retain its Olympic status and we are happy to be associated with World Boxing.” Singh said that he will work closely with the World Boxing Executive Board to develop the sport so that boxers around the world can have a good future.
Former IBA Presidential candidate Boris Van Der Vorst said, “India is a very important country for international boxing and we welcome BFI to the World Boxing family. This is a very exciting move which will increase our presence in Asia. We will work closely with BFI towards a common goal.”
