The Government of India is working on alert mode to curb the rapidly spreading fake drugs business across the country. Under which the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization is taking samples of medicines every month and issuing a report on their quality.
32 people making fake medicines sent to jail: After the samples of all the medicines manufactured in the state of Uttarakhand failed for the last few months, the Uttarakhand Drugs Control Department has also become active. So that the business of fake medicines in the state can be curbed. According to the information received from the FDA, the Drugs Department has registered cases against 72 people in the last three years and sent 32 people to jail.
Instructions to FDA to raid: The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department is continuously running a campaign to tighten the noose on the business of fake medicines in the state. Recently, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had instructed the FDA to conduct raids on a large scale in view of the Chardham Yatra and tourism season. Since then, the team of the Drugs Department is conducting raids on all the medicine shops located in tourist places as well as surprise inspections of pharma companies.
What did the Drug Controller say: Drug Controller Tajbar Singh Jaggi said that the department is running a campaign against the fake drug mafia. In view of the Chardham Yatra and tourist season, raids are being conducted on medical stores. High cases of counterfeit drug manufacturing have come to light in Roorkee and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Due to which a case has been registered against 72 people within the last 03 years. 32 people have been sent to jail. Along with this, 71 cases of based inspection, 14 manufacturing licenses suspended, 04 manufacturing licenses revoked, approval of 63 medicines revoked as well as general inspection of 223 manufacturing units have been done.
Samples of 47 medicines failed: The Drugs Controller said that from December 2023 to March 2024, samples of 281 medicines were taken from all places to test the quality of medicines being sold in the state. Out of these, 47 samples did not meet the standards. However, all these medicines were made in other states, against which action has been taken. Along with pharma companies, action is also being taken against wholesale and retail sellers of medicines. Along with this, retailers giving unnecessary discounts on medicines are also being monitored. Along with monitoring retailers giving unnecessary discounts on medicines, distributors and wholesalers have been instructed to sell medicines only on bills.
You can get fake medicines tested in Dehradun: Drug Controller Tajbar Singh said that now medicines and cosmetic products are being tested in Dehradun as well as Rudrapur. Dehradun has a lab equipped with state-of-the-art machines. It also has the facility of wet lab, minor and major, cosmetic and micro lab. Along with testing of medicines and cosmetic products, online certification is also available. In such a situation, the general public can also get the adulteration checked here. For this, the public will have to pay the labor charge.
Excerpts of medicines found in multivitamins: The drug controller said that samples of 156 medicines have been taken from all the medical stores present on the Chardham Yatra route, which have met the standards. The samples of medicines being taken from the travel route are being tested on priority basis in Rudrapur lab. It was also told that multivitamins were being made in many pharmaceutical companies on food license, in the raid of which capsules and tablets of multivitamins were seized. Also, the company was sealed after salts of medicines were found in the multivitamins during the sample test.
Quantity fixed for wholesalers and retailers: The state government has already fixed the stock of narcotic and psychotropic drugs used as intoxicants. In such a situation, now medical stores and suppliers will not be able to sell these medicines arbitrarily. Wholesalers and retailers will not be able to keep more medicines than the fixed quantity. They will also have to keep account of the sale of such medicines. Along with this, now no medical store or stockist in the state will be able to keep stock of medicines more than the fixed limit. If anyone does this, then his license will be canceled as well as other actions will be taken.
Stock of 13 medicines fixed: In the order issued by the Drug Controller, the stock of a total of 13 medicines has been fixed. Alprazolam, Tramadol, Tramadol injection, Codeine, Pensidyl, Diazepam, Diazepam injection, Clonazepam, Pentazonic, Nitrazepam, Nitrazepam injection have been included in this category. New stock of these medicines can be ordered only when the existing stock has been used up and complete information about its use will be given. Now drug sellers in retail will be able to keep only 10 to 15 vials and 20 strips of these medicines.
Investigation of fruits containing chemicals started on Chardham Yatra routes: Additional Food Commissioner and Drug Controller Tajbar Singh Jaggi said that complaints are being received about the use of calcium carbide and injection for ripening fruits. In view of this, food inspectors have been ordered to investigate adulteration in fruits on the entire Yatra route. This campaign has started from Haridwar, Rishikesh from May 31. Under this campaign, fruit samples will be collected from travel routes and sent to the lab for testing. Action will be taken against the person found guilty.
