Uttarakhand: CM Dhami instructions to officials – Make effective efforts for revival of rivers and water sources

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed the officials for the successful implementation of water conservation and plantation campaign, 2024 that fast work should be done towards water conservation and water storage. Effective efforts should be made to revive rivers and water sources. For this, all the concerned departments should work in coordination. Water festival week should be celebrated on a large scale from 10 to 16 June 2024. The Chief Minister gave this instruction in a meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said that fast work should be done for revival of water sources on scientific basis. For this, cooperation of eucalypts, ucherics and other institutions working for water conservation and enhancement should also be taken. He said that public participation is very important in making any campaign successful. Along with those working towards water conservation and enhancement, public participation in this direction should also be ensured. The Chief Minister instructed the officials that the base line data should also be made of the rivers and water sources which have been identified so far to revive. For their revival, work should be done with short and long -term plan. Special attention should be paid to rainwater harvesting. The policy made for rain water harvesting should be ensured as per rules.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the officials that special attention should be paid to moisture conservation in such areas to control Vanagni from Vanagni to possible areas. For this, the forest department should work by making a complete plan. Work should be done by making an action plan in a planned manner for the conservation of water sources which are dry rapidly. The creation of trick-khal and amrit lakes should be further accelerated. Work should be done effectively for water conservation accumulation and protection in urban areas.

The Chief Minister also instructed the officials that a widespread plantation campaign should be conducted from the upcoming Harela festival. This campaign should be run for a month. Fruit and shady trees should be planted more. Their conservation with plantation is most important, special attention should be paid to their conservation. The Chief Minister directed that the plantation campaign should be run to the Nyaya Panchayat level. Public awareness programs should be organized for water conservation and plantation through seminars at Nyaya Panchayat level. Fruit plants should be distributed under the plantation campaign in Nyaya Panchayat level, schools and universities.

Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said that public participation in the plantation campaign is necessary. He said that connecting this campaign with MNREGA will also increase the livelihood of the people. This year this campaign will be expanded to the Nyaya Panchayat level. Plantation will be done by the forest department by creating a sector.

Environmentalist Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi said that conservation of traditional water sources is necessary. Regular work will have to be done on traditional methods of water harvesting and conservation. It is necessary to make this campaign a mass campaign.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary R.K. Of. Sudhanshu, Chief Conservator of Forests Dr. Dhananjay Mohan, Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Arvind Singh Hyanki, Vinay Shankar Pandey, S.N. Pandey, Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, H.C. Semwal, Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakte, senior officials of the government and all the District Magistrates were present through virtual medium.
