Russia: Four Indian medical students drowned in a river in Russia, they were studying at Novgorod State University
Four Indian medical students died after drowning in a fast-flowing river near St. Petersburg in Russia. All the students who died, Harshal Anantrao Desale, Zeeshan Ashpak Pinjari, Jiya Firoz Pinjari and Malik Gulamgaus Mohammad Yakub were residents of Jalgaon in Maharashtra. They studied at Novgorod State University. Locals rescued Nisha Bhupesh Sonawane who was with them. So far two bodies have been recovered from the Volkhov river. The search for the rest is on.
All of them drowned while trying to save a student studying with them. Their age was between 18 and 20 years. Zeeshan and Jiya were residents of Amalner in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. They were brother and sister. Harshal Desale was a resident of Bhadgaon in Jalgaon. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that the Indian Consulate in St. Petersburg is in touch with the university and local authorities and all possible assistance is being provided. The Indian Embassy in Moscow has said that the student rescued in the accident is being given medical facility.
He made a video call while standing in the river
The family of a student, Jishan, said that all the students were strolling on the banks of the Volkhov River in their free time in the evening. Suddenly they entered the river. Jishan made a video call to them while standing in the river. His father and other family members were constantly asking Jishan and all the students to get out of the water, when the strong wave swept them away.
