The last two times in 2014 and 2019, BJP got majority on its own, but this time it needs the support of other parties to form the government.
Intense talks are going on between the BJP leadership and its allies regarding the share of various components of the NDA in the new government. Apart from senior BJP leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, party president JP Nadda is in talks with other allies including Telugu Desam Party’s N Chandrababu Naidu, JDU’s Nitish Kumar and Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde.
Allies may get five to eight cabinet berths
It is believed that apart from education and culture, important ministries like Home, Finance, Defense and Foreign will remain with the BJP, while its allies may get five to eight cabinet berths. While within the party, leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are considered certain to be included in the new cabinet, former Chief Ministers who won the Lok Sabha elections like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Basavaraj Bommai, Manohar Lal Khattar and Sarbananda Sonowal are contenders to join the government.
