Uttarakhand: Delimitation of Roorkee Municipal Corporation and Bajpur Municipality approved, scope of both bodies will increase

The government has approved the delimitation of Roorkee Municipal Corporation and Bajpur Municipality. The scope of both these bodies has increased. Accordingly, the State Election Commission has now issued a notification for voter revision.
The final publication of the voter list of these two bodies will be done for the voters on August 9. Amidst the preparations for the civic elections in the state, last week the Urban Development Department had approved the delimitation of Municipal Corporation Herbertpur, Narendranagar, Rudraprayag and Nagar Panchayat Kirtinagar, on the basis of which the State Election Commission had issued a notification for their voter list revision.
After this, the approval for the delimitation of Roorkee Municipal Corporation and Bajpur Municipality was also sent to the Commission by the Urban Development Department. On this basis, on Saturday, State Election Commissioner Chandrashekhar Bhatt issued a notification for both the bodies. In these, now door-to-door counting and survey will be done from June 15 to June 29. The entry of voters’ names will be done between July 3 and July 22.
After this, the draft will be released on July 23. Objections on this will be taken from 24 to 30 July. These will have to be resolved between 31 July and 2 August. The final publication of voter lists will be done in both the bodies on 9 August, according to which the civic elections will be held.
Now elections will be held in 99 bodies
There are 102 municipal bodies in the state. These include nine municipal corporations, 45 municipalities, 48 nagar panchayats. Elections are not held in Nagar Panchayat Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri. The tenure of Nagar Palika Bajpur was ending in July, and that of Roorkee Municipal Corporation in November. Since the delimitation of these two bodies has been approved, now civic elections will be held in all 99 bodies. The government is preparing to hold elections in August-September.
