Uttarakhand: Efforts to install Smart Electricity Meter in Uttarakhand are complete, work will start from this month…the method of consumption and billing will change

The plan to install smart electricity meters in Uttarakhand is expected to come to the ground soon. The exercise has been completed by the Energy Corporation regarding this. In which the work of installing meters will be started from the coming July.
Under the RDSS, smart meters will be installed in 15.84 lakh houses and establishments in Uttarakhand. After the installation of smart prepaid meters, there will be a change in the way of electricity consumption and billing.
Far-reaching changes in the field of electricity
Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Central Government, far-reaching changes are going to happen in the field of electricity in Uttarakhand. The work of installing smart prepaid meters is being started by the Energy Corporation in the state from next month.
It is being claimed that by installing smart prepaid meters by the consumers, there will be a better understanding of controlling electricity expenses, reduction in power theft and improvement in power supply in the area.
Along with this, the installation of smart meters is also expected to improve bill and collection efficiency. Energy Corporation Managing Director Anil Kumar said that under the scheme, smart prepaid meters will be installed for 15.84 lakh consumers of the state.
Apart from this, smart meters will also be installed on 5912 distribution transformers and 2602 feeders to improve energy accounting. After the award of tender by the Energy Corporation, the purchase of meters has been approved and the process of preparing business process document by the departmental committee is in progress.
Benefits of Smart Meter
- Consumers will be able to recharge electricity in the smart meter from home through mobile app and will be able to consume electricity as per the recharge plan.
- Consumers will get rid of the complaint of wrong electricity bill.
- Consumers will have control over electricity consumption.
- No one will be able to tamper with the prepaid meter, which will stop electricity theft and also reduce line faults.
- Smart meter will provide useful real time data to the Energy Corporation to balance the electricity load and reduce power outage (black out).
