NEET exam of 1563 students will be held again, grace marks abolished… Understand the full decision of the Supreme Court on the NTA dispute

Today, students have got a big victory in the NEET UG scam case. In view of the irregularities in the NEET exam results, the Supreme Court has directed the NTA to cancel the grace marks of 1563 students and conduct the NEET exam again. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta heard the case.
Supreme Court’s U-turn on grace marks!
When NTA was questioned about 67 students getting 720 out of 720 marks, NTA told the reason behind it was grace marks. NTA had said in its clarification that due to loss of time at some exam centers, a total of 1563 students have been given grace marks, due to which 44 students’ marks became 720. However, after the hearing in the Supreme Court today, NTA was directed to cancel the grace marks.
Students who get grace marks have these two options
Students who have been given grace marks by NTA have been given two options. These students can either appear for the re-exam on June 23 or proceed for counselling with their old score without grace marks. Candidates who are confident that they can perform well in the re-exam can decide to appear for the re-exam.
Only 1563 students will have to appear for the NEET exam again
Hearing the petitions filed after the NEET result, the Supreme Court said that only 1563 students who got grace marks will be re-examined. Earlier, the NTA had said that the problem is limited to the results of only 1563 students out of about 24 lakh students. The rest of the students have no problem.
No ban on NEET UG counselling
The Supreme Court has again reiterated today that there will be no ban on NEET UG counselling. Students can participate in the counselling round. NEET exam will be held again on June 23 and its result is expected to be declared on June 30. So that NEET counseling can start in July. NTA said that this decision is being taken to remove the fear of students.
What is the harm in giving grace marks?
In fact, when NTA, which conducted the NEET exam held across the country on May 5, released the result on June 4, there was an uproar across the country. The reason was that while 67 children got 720 out of 720 marks, more than this, 1563 children were given grace marking. This grace marking was not given for 10, 20 or 30 marks but for 100 to 150 marks, due to which many children who were out of merit came in the merit and it became difficult for the meritorious children to get admission in government colleges.
What changes will happen in NEET exam after the Supreme Court’s decision?
Change in merit list: After the grace marks of 1563 students were canceled, the biggest change among the three major changes will be the change in the merit list. Because this year due to loss of time, the grace marks given by NTA suddenly increased the average merit list of NEET by four times. Due to this, the students who were out of the race for government medical college can come back in this merit list.
All India Rank (AIR) will also change
This was the first time in history that NTA has declared such a large number (67) of students as toppers. On this, NTA had cited grace marks and said that the number of topper students has increased due to compensation. Due to compensation, 44 candidates got AIR 1 and the number of students increased to 67. Apart from this, a lot of students shared the same AIR this year. After the re-NEET result, the number of students getting All India Rank may change. Apart from this, the irregularity between NEET score and rank may improve this year.
NTA will revise the merit list
The Supreme Court has asked NTA to cancel the grace marks of 1563 students and conduct the NEET exam again. NTA will now conduct the re-NEET exam on June 23, the result of which will be released on June 30. After the release of the new result, NTA will have to prepare the merit list again, on the basis of which counseling will start from July 6.
