In the name of getting jobs in Punjab, 2 policemen extorted 26 lakhs from 102 people, complained on CM helpline, police caught them

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested two police personnel for duping 102 people in the name of getting them jobs. Both the police personnel are accused of extorting Rs 26 lakh from the people. The accused claimed to the victims that the vacant posts of fourth class in Punjab Police would be filled in the coming days.

The official spokesperson of the Vigilance said that both the accused were arrested after investigation of the complaint lodged by Surinder Singh, a resident of Nanglan village of Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur, on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line Portal.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tarlochan Pal posted as a cleaner in the 3rd IRB (India Reserve Battalion) and Surindpal posted as a barber in the Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur. Tarlochan Pal is a resident of Jalandhar while Surindpal is a resident of Sikri village in Karnal, Haryana.

Allegations found correct in investigation

The spokesperson said that during the initial investigation, the allegations made by the complainant have been found to be correct. After this, a case of fraud was registered against both the accused. The investigation also revealed that the accused had falsely assured the victims that about 560 vacant grade-four posts in Punjab Police would be filled in the coming months.

Rs 26 lakh collected from 102 people: Vigilance spokesperson

He said that Rs 25,000 was demanded from each person to secure the job, thereby collecting a huge amount from individuals across the state. Both the accused had collected some Rs 26 lakh two thousand 926 as bribe from about 102 people in the name of getting jobs.

According to the spokesperson, a case has been registered against the accused under Section 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
