Bail to Kejriwal, ED opposes
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday, giving a big relief to him. Kejriwal is in Tihar Jail in the alleged money laundering case related to the liquor policy. Special Judge Nyay Bindu granted this relief to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Kejriwal on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The court also rejected the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) request to stay Kejriwal’s bail order for 48 hours. However, the court imposed some conditions on the Chief Minister before granting him relief. The conditions also include that he will not try to obstruct the investigation or influence witnesses. The judge also directed Kejriwal to appear in court whenever required and cooperate in the investigation.
Earlier, the court had reserved the order after hearing the arguments of the ED. Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, on behalf of the ED, had told the court that there is strong evidence against Kejriwal, so he should not get bail. The defense had claimed that the ED has no evidence to convict Kejriwal. This whole case is based only on imagination. Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21. After this, he was sent to Tihar Jail on April 1. The Supreme Court had granted Kejriwal interim bail for 21 days at the time of elections. After being out on bail for 21 days, Kejriwal surrendered in Tihar Jail at 5 pm on June 2. Earlier on Wednesday, the judicial custody of the CM ended, which was extended by the court till July 3.
