Uttarakhand: Regarding removal of encroachment from slums, Congress said – Destroying is easy, resettling is difficult

The administration has once again launched a campaign against encroachment in the capital Dehradun. After the orders of NGT, the action against encroachment from slums has started. Constructions done after the year 2016 have been declared illegal as per the rules. But the Congress has opposed the removal of encroachment from slums and said that even though it is very easy to demolish someone’s house, it is equally difficult to settle them. In such a situation, the government should have made arrangements for the settlement of the slum dwellers instead of demolishing them.
Reacting to the encroachment being removed from slums, Congress Party State President Karan Mahara said that it is the responsibility of the government to protect the citizens living in this nation and states, manage their drinking water, education, health and make arrangements for their living. But today the situation has become such that the country is ruled by rulers and there is no protector left for the poor people.
He said that a popular government is one that first brings a scheme towards settling the poor and the oppressed, and then rehabilitates the people under the scheme. He raised the question that the government is calling encroachment and is also citing NGT, but in Dehradun, police officer colony, Vidhan Sabha and resorts of many capitalists are built on the banks of rivers. Therefore, the government should clarify why it is not taking any action against them. He has described the action of removing encroachment in slums as ‘Andher Nagari Chaupat Raja’.
