Madhya Pradesh / Chhindwara: Husband gets angry after wife votes for BJP, says Talaq, Talaq, Talaq!

A 26-year-old woman in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh has claimed that her husband gave her triple talaq after being angry at her for supporting the BJP. However, the woman’s husband has denied the allegations. He has accused his wife of having an illicit relationship. The police is investigating the matter.

Kotwali police station in-charge Umesh Golhani said that the victim woman has said in her complaint that she was married about eight years ago. For some time, their relationship with the in-laws was normal, but later her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law started taunting and beating her on some issue or the other.

The woman claimed that she was thrown out of the house about one and a half years ago. She lived with her husband in a rented room. Meanwhile, when the elections were held, the woman voted in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party, supporting it. This angered her husband. He gave her ‘triple talaq’.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the police have registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law and four sisters-in-law under the provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Act and the Indian Penal Code. The victim’s statement has been recorded. Investigation is underway.

The woman says that her husband had sent a divorce notice, in which she was accused of being characterless and having an illicit relationship, which is completely false and baseless. She has sent a reply to her husband’s divorce notice through her lawyer.

On the other hand, the woman’s husband alleged that she had illicit relations with some people. He explained to her several times and gave her a chance to reconcile, but she did not agree. After this, he divorced her for the first time on March 30, 2022 according to Muslim law. He divorced her twice in October and November 2023.

The husband also claimed that the reason for giving divorce was not to support any political party, as there were no elections in the year 2022, when he divorced. He alleged that the woman was threatening him, tarnishing his image and talking about ruining his family.

He also claimed that no one in his family harassed him as she was living separately for the last three years. The divorce case has already been filed in the court. Everyone in the family is free to support any political party. There is nothing of this sort.
