In such a situation, let us tell you that neither is this a space ship nor a common lightning strike that comes down from the clouds. Rather, this strange light goes upwards from the clouds. Actually this lightning is called Gigantic jets. It reaches 80 km above the clouds i.e. up to the ionosphere.

Know why fountains of electricity are rising above the clouds

The place from where these gigantic jets emerge is called blue jet. Its upper branch is known as red sprites. These gigantic jets are energy particles emerging from the stratosphere which are formed from the electric current generated by a strong thunderstorm. When there is a high flow of electric current in the ionosphere, such lights are seen above the clouds which are formed about 80 km above the ground.

Mostly these are seen in the shape of a jellyfish or carrot, their average length and width can be up to 18 km. However, it is not easy to see them from the earth. We can see it from a plane or a space station. Not only on the earth, but they were also seen in the atmosphere of Jupiter.

Are these gigantic jets dangerous?

As beautiful and attractive as they look, they are equally dangerous. Let us tell you that they can be 50 times more powerful than normal electricity. If we talk about the whole world, these lightnings are seen only about 1000 times in a year. However, research is still going on on this.
