Uttar Pradesh: Fed up with police harassment, two brothers commit suicide, accused sub-inspector arrested, inspector absconding

The case of two brothers who committed suicide in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh after being fed up with police harassment is gaining momentum. Due to which a sub-inspector who instigated both the brothers to commit suicide has been arrested and while the inspector has absconded. Now the police is searching for him.

In fact, on June 22, Sanjay Singh, a resident of Roopdhanu village of Sadabad police station area in Hathras, committed suicide after being fed up with the harassment of Sadabad police. Actually Sanjay’s brother-in-law had fled with a minor girl.

After this, in the same case, Sadabad police had asked Sanjay to present his brother-in-law in connection with the case before June 22, but he committed suicide the same day. On Monday, Sanjay’s brother Home Guard Pramod Singh also committed suicide.

Pramod Singh has left a suicide note before dying, in which he has made serious allegations against the Sadabad police. After the suicide of the brothers, the villagers protested against the police and demanded action against the officer.

Police said that after this, on the instructions of Inspector General of Aligarh Range Shalabh Mathur, the accused Sub Inspector (SI) Hariom Agnihotri and Inspector Mukesh Kumar have been suspended.

Police said that on Tuesday an FIR was registered against both the officers at Barhan police station under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC and SI Agnihotri was arrested the next day.

Giving information about this, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Etmadpur, Sukanya Sharma told PTI that SI Agnihotri has been produced in the court and sent to jail, while Inspector Mukesh Kumar is still absconding and his search is on.

After this incident, politicians also reached there to protest. Union Minister SP Singh Baghel visited that village and met the victim’s family. He told that the UP government has given a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family.
