The training program of Agriculture Census Scheme was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand and Chairman Uttarakhand Agriculture Census Commissioner Anand Bardhan.

Under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand and Chairman Uttarakhand Agriculture Census Commissioner Anand Bardhan, a training program for the second and third phase of the State Level Agriculture Census Scheme was organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India at a local hotel in Ladpur, Dehradun on Friday.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman Uttarakhand Agriculture Census Commissioner Anand Bardhan said that the data of agricultural census is used by various stakeholders for development planning, socio-economic policy making and establishment of national priorities. He described this program as in the interest of the development of agriculture and farmers. During the program, he highlighted the importance of agricultural census and emphasized the need for training. He told that the data of agricultural census plays an important role in the formulation of agricultural policies and schemes of our country.

On this occasion, the main objectives of agricultural census, calculation of number and structure of operational status, irrigation and tenancy details including land use and crop pattern, details of various sizes of land holdings including Scheduled Caste/Tribe/Women and objectives related to the pattern of input use in agriculture were discussed. In the program, training was provided for the third and fourth phase of the Agricultural Census Scheme, under which the data of agricultural census will be compiled by collecting field data through the Ag Census App.

It was told in the meeting that in the second phase of the Agricultural Census Scheme, data is collected by feeding irrigated and non-irrigated area, information of lease of land and crop pattern through the Ag Census App in 20 percent revenue villages of the state. In the third phase of agricultural census, information about the number of family members of the cultivator, level of education, age and inputs used by the cultivator – manure, chemical fertilizers, seeds, medicines, agricultural loan, agricultural equipment etc. is collected.

In the meeting, it was informed that according to the Agriculture Census year 2015-16, the total revenue villages in the state are 16674, total functional cultivators are 881305, total functional area is 747319.695 hectares, Scheduled Caste functional cultivators are 123800, Scheduled Tribe functional cultivators are 28135, female functional cultivators are 105124, male functional cultivators are 774557, joint holdings are 201318, individual holdings are 678363, institutional holdings are 1624.

On this occasion, Commissioner and Secretary Revenue Council Chandresh Kumar, Additional District Magistrate Pithoragarh Shiv Kumar Barnwal, Additional District Magistrate Pauri Mrs. Ila Giri, Representative of Government of India Mrs. Jagriti Goyal, Assistant Director, Government of India, State and District level officers, Assistant Statistical Officers, Agriculture Directorate Uttarakhand and Statistical Investigation personnel of State Council also participated.
