Uttarakhand: A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Disaster Management Dr. Sinha regarding monsoon, scientists from various central research institutes participated

A meeting was organized by Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) with various central research institutes regarding preparations for the upcoming monsoon. Risk assessment, mitigation, relief and rescue operations regarding various disasters were discussed in the meeting.
While chairing the meeting, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha said that natural disasters bring many challenges every year in Uttarakhand. Floods and landslides during monsoon cause huge loss of life and property. He said that disaster management is not the work of one department, but the challenges of disaster can be dealt with through mutual coordination and synergy of many departments. Research of various research institutes can provide a direction in dealing with disaster effectively.
Secretary Dr. Sinha took information about the work being done by various institutes to deal with landslides as well as other disasters and understood their experiences and the techniques being used by them. He asked the scientists of Geological Survey of India and Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology to develop a forecasting model, which can tell how much rain can lead to landslides. He said that impact based forecasts are very important to reduce the effects of disasters.
Verification of IIT Roorkee’s project will be done
Secretary Dr. Sinha asked the National Center for Seismology under the control of Ministry of Earth Science to validate the earthquake early warning system developed by IIT Roorkee. He instructed to send the data related to this project to MES. So that it can be known how effective it is.
Make a detailed plan regarding floods
Secretary Dr. Sinha said that Insar technology can bring about a huge change in the field of disaster management. He asked the scientists of NGRI to work on it from the point of view of Uttarakhand. He instructed the scientists of NIH Roorkee to make a flood management plan for Uttarakhand using the report and data of flood plain zoning.
Director of National Center for Seismology, Dr. OP Mishra said that Amrita University has worked on Real Time Landslide Early Warning System and the benefits of their research can be taken in the prevention of landslides in Uttarakhand.
