Israel-Hamas War: Gaza hospital chief released
Israel on Monday released Mohammad Abu Salmiya, director of Gaza’s largest Al-Shifa hospital. After his release, he said that he was tortured for seven months in custody. At the same time, PM Netanyahu criticized this release and called it a ‘serious mistake’.
Netanyahu said that he has ordered the Shin Bet intelligence agency to investigate the release and provide the results by Tuesday. Netanyahu said in a statement, “The release of the director of Shifa hospital is a serious mistake and a moral failure.
The hospital director was taken hostage at the beginning of the war
Tensions over the release of Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa Hospital, became public at about the same time as the release of dozens of other Palestinians taken hostage in Gaza since the October 7 attacks. The move is believed to have sparked the Israel-Hamas war. The World Health Organization also expressed concern after Abu Salmiya was detained along with other hospital staff on November 23.
