Neeraj Chopra: ‘I want to focus on the Olympics’, Chopra clarified on not joining the Diamond League
Olympic and world champion Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra on Wednesday clarified his participation in the Diamond League to be held in Paris. He said that he is busy preparing for the Olympics, due to which he will not be able to be a part of this league. Actually, some reports claimed that Neeraj has withdrawn his name from this league. However, now he has clarified that the Paris Diamond League was not a part of his competition calendar this season.
Neeraj clarified
Neeraj wrote on ‘X’, “Hello everyone. Just want to clarify that the Paris Diamond League was not part of my competition calendar this season. I have not withdrawn from it. I am focusing on preparing for the Olympic Games. Thank you for your understanding and support and best of luck to all the athletes competing.”
Preparation started from Paavo Nurmi Games
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra performed brilliantly in the Paavo Nurmi Games last month and won. Neeraj secured first place in these games held before the Olympics with a best throw of 85.97 meters and was successful in winning the gold medal. Neeraj was lagging behind in this tournament, but he made a great comeback in the third attempt and was successful in maintaining his lead till the end.
Which league will Chopra participate in?
Chopra, however, had indicated last month that his schedule will be decided according to his physical condition. Chopra had said, “We discussed that I will play in the Inter-State Championship (June 27-30) and it will be held in Panchkula, Haryana but there is very little time between Paris Olympics and this. I was playing in Doha so it is close to India. Apart from this, there is Paris Diamond League (July 7) between the National Inter-State Championship and Olympics. So we decided to participate here (Federation Cup). The decision on the further competition calendar will be taken according to the situation and physical condition. Otherwise, I will go to Paris from here.”
