Uttarakhand: Women in Almora are angry over water shortage, sit on roads and protest, jam the highway

Women who were facing water shortage for the last four days in Almora had to come out on the streets and protest. Women from 12 nearby villages including Dwarahat blocked the Dwarahat-Badrinath highway with empty utensils. During this, a heavy police force was deployed on the spot. Seeing the anger of the women, the police administration was sweating.

Let us tell you that the drinking water supply has been stopped for the last four days due to burning of the transformer of Ramganga pumping scheme in the villages around Dwarahat, Gawad village, Kotila, Dhyari, Bamnpuri, Salalkhola, Bhumkiya. Troubled women reached the Jal Sansthan office with empty utensils with their demands. The women got furious when they did not find any officer in the office. After which the women blocked the Dwarahat-Badrinath highway.
Women got up from the highway on the written assurance of EE
On receiving the information of blocking the highway, SDM Sunil Kumar, Tehsildar Titiksh Joshi and EE Suresh Thakur of Jal Sansthan reached the spot. The officials tried to convince the women but the women did not agree. The women got up from the highway after the EE of the Jal Sansthan gave a written assurance to streamline the water supply soon, distribute water according to the roster and supply water through tankers in case of water supply failure. After which the passersby as well as the administration officials heaved a sigh of relief.
