What did PM Modi say about Hamid Ansari? Congress got angry and immediately made this big demand

The Congress on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had broken all parliamentary norms by accusing the then Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari of being inclined towards the Opposition when the BJP came to power in 2014.

On July 2, in response to the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister had said, ‘No matter how many numbers they claim, when we came to power in 2014, our numbers in the Rajya Sabha were very less and the Chairman was somewhat inclined towards the other side, but we did not waver from our resolve to serve the country with pride.’

The PM did not name anyone

PM Modi said, ‘I want to tell the people of the country that the decision you have taken, the order you have given us to serve, neither Modi nor this government will be intimidated by any such obstacle. We will fulfill the resolutions that we have set.’ Although Modi did not name anyone, the then Vice President Hamid Ansari was the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha from August 2012 to August 2017.

Jairam Ramesh reacted

This is the first time that Congress has reacted to the Prime Minister’s above-mentioned comment. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on Twitter, ‘One thing that the non-organic Prime Minister said in the Lok Sabha on July 2 escaped the media’s attention. What he said was extremely bad and unacceptable and should have been removed immediately.

This is not the first time the PM has targeted Ansari

Ramesh said, “This is not the first time Modi has targeted Ansari. In his farewell speech on completion of Ansari’s tenure seven years ago, he had mentioned Ansari’s top diplomatic appointments in Islamic countries.” Jairam said, “These countries were important for India’s interests and Ansari retired from the Indian Foreign Service after serving as High Commissioner to Australia and India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, which was mischievously overlooked.”

Parliamentary norms broken

Ramesh alleged that no Prime Minister had ever attacked a former Speaker or former Chairman of the Rajya Sabha the way Modi did. The Congress general secretary said, “He (Modi) has broken all parliamentary norms by doing this, not that he respected them at all. After his hateful election campaign, he has further reduced the remaining dignity of his post.”
