UGC has made a new policy regarding fee refund, know when the college’s recognition will be cancelled

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made a new policy regarding fee refund after complaints from students and parents. The Fee Refund Policy 2024 has been made much stricter than the earlier policy. According to the information received in the media report, if the fees of any student are not returned by the college in time, then now the recognition of the concerned college can be canceled. Along with this, there is a provision from stopping the grant of that college to putting it in the defaulter list.

Strict framework prepared in case of non-refund of fees

Manish Joshi, Secretary in the Union Ministry of Education, has issued a notice in this regard. In this notice, those rules and regulations have been cited, under which there is a mention of cancellation of recognition of the college in case of non-refund of fees. This rule will also apply to other colleges including engineering, medical. UGC has prepared strict framework on the college administration in case of non-refund of fees. There is a provision for withdrawing permission to study online and open and distance learning courses, withdrawing the status of autonomous institute and making it public by putting its name in the defaulter list.

A fixed time limit for fee refund

According to the notice of Union Education Ministry Manish Joshi, for this, the student or parents will also have to apply within the scope of the rules. For example, there is a fixed time limit for fee refund. In such a situation, the student or parent will have to apply within this time limit. So that their money can be refunded in time.

Let us tell you that UGC had received complaints from many students or parents that it has been found many times in the higher year education system that if a student withdraws his name from the institute due to unavoidable reasons, then he is not getting the fee refunded from the college as per the scope of the rules. The number of such complaining students and parents is continuously increasing.

How much will be refunded?

According to the notice, 100 percent fee will be refunded if the seat is left 15 days or before the last date of admission is notified. Along with this, 90% of the fee will be refunded if the last date of admission is notified within 15 days. 80% of the fee will be refunded within 15 days after the last date of admission is notified. Apart from this, 50% of the fee will be refunded between 15 to 30 days. No fee will be refunded after one month or 30 days of admission.
