Uttarakhand: Kedarnath MLA Shailarani Rawat passes away, CM Dhami expresses grief, last rites to be performed in Rudraprayag

Kedarnath MLA Shailarani Rawat died during treatment on Tuesday night. She was referred to a higher center as the spinal cord operation was not successful. Actually, she had an accident during the 2017 assembly elections. After which her health remained poor.

Kedarnath MLA Shailarani Rawat was on ventilator in Max Hospital for two days. She could not recover even after surgery after a spinal fracture. In case of slight improvement in her health, preparations were made to airlift her to a higher center. But her body was not cooperating. After which she died during treatment on Tuesday night at around 10:30 pm.

Injury took her life: Shailarani Rawat fell during the assembly election campaign in Uttarakhand in the year 2017. This caused her internal injury. She also got cancer due to the flesh being torn due to the injury. After treatment for about three years, she returned home healthy. She became active in politics again. A few months ago, she suffered a spinal fracture due to falling from the stairs of Omkareshwar Temple Ukhimath. She was taken to a higher center by her family, where she underwent surgery. The sad thing was that this surgery was not successful. Since then, her health had started deteriorating continuously.

Shailarani Rawat was 68 years old. There is a wave of mourning in the area due to the death of Kedarnath MLA Shailarani Rawat. After her death at Max Hospital, her body was taken to her residence in Dehradun. Shailarani’s personal assistant Pappu said that her last rites will be performed in Rudraprayag today. CM Dhami has condoled the death of Shailarani Rawat. BJP MP from Pauri Garhwal Lok Sabha seat Anil Baluni has also expressed condolences on the death of the Kedarnath MLA.

Kedarnath MLA Shailarani’s political career was mixed. She did politics from both Congress and BJP parties. Her political journey started with Congress. In 2012, Shailarani reached the assembly after winning on a Congress ticket. During the stampede during Harish Rawat’s government, Shailarani also joined BJP along with 9 MLAs. She contested from Kedarnath assembly seat in 2017 on BJP ticket. She lost this election. Despite this, the BJP high command kept faith in her. In 2022, the party again gave her a ticket from Kedarnath assembly seat. Shailarani Rawat won this time’s election.
