Voting continues on 2 assembly seats in Uttarakhand, voters are deciding the fate of the candidates
Voting is being held today for the by-elections on Badrinath and Mangalore assembly seats in Uttarakhand. Security arrangements have been tightened to conduct peaceful and fair voting. 210 polling stations have been set up in Badrinath assembly seat and 132 polling stations in Mangalore assembly, where votes are being cast. Voting started at 8 am and will continue till 6 pm.
Why by-elections are being held on Badrinath assembly seat
Let us tell you that by-elections on Badrinath assembly seat of Chamoli district are being held after the resignation of Congress MLA Rajendra Bhandari and his joining BJP. Rajendra Bhandari, who was a sitting MLA from Congress, is now contesting from BJP. Whereas, senior Congress leader Lakhpat Butola has entered the fray. In such a situation, there is a competition between BJP’s Rajendra Bhandari and Congress’s Lakhpat Butola on the Badrinath seat.
Apart from this, Naval Khali is contesting as an independent candidate and Himmat Singh is contesting from Sainik Samaj Party. Today, the fate of all four candidates will be captured in EVM. There are 1,02,145 voters on Badrinath assembly seat, who will decide the fate of these four candidates. At the same time, 7 polling centers have been made ideal polling places (model booths) to welcome the voters. Model booths include women, youth, handicapped managed booths and unique booths.
This is the reason for by-election on Mangalore assembly seat
On the other hand, if we talk about Mangalore assembly seat of Haridwar district, this seat was vacated due to the death of BSP MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari. Therefore, by-election is now being held on this seat. BJP candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana, Congress candidate Qazi Nizamuddin and BSP candidate Ubedur Rahman alias Monty are in the electoral fray on this seat. There are 1,19,930 voters on Mangalore assembly seat, who will decide the fate of these candidates who have entered the political arena.
The special thing is that BJP has not been able to win Mangalore assembly seat even once. Therefore, this seat remains a challenge for BJP. On the other hand, if we talk about the opposition, in the year 2017, the Congress candidate won this seat, but in 2022 this seat went to the BSP. Now it remains to be seen who gets the crown of victory this time in this game of checkmate.
