Assembly by-election result 2024: Big setback for NDA, India alliance wins 10 out of 13 seats

The final results of the assembly by-elections held on 13 seats in seven states of the country have been declared after the counting of votes on Saturday. India Alliance has won a big victory in the by-elections. According to the results released by the Election Commission, out of 13 seats, India Alliance has won 10 seats. While NDA has to be satisfied with only two seats. One seat has been captured by an independent.

Congress captures both seats of Uttarakhand

The ruling BJP has faced defeat in the assembly by-elections held on Mangalore and Badrinath seats of Uttarakhand. Congress has won both the seats. Amidst the possibilities of upset in the last four phases, Congress’s Qazi Nizamuddin won the Mangalore assembly seat. Qazi has won by 422 votes. Congress’s Qazi Nizamuddin got a total of 31,727 votes while BJP’s Kartar Singh Bhadana got 31,305 votes. BSP candidate Ubedur Rahman finished third with 19,559 votes. Mangalore seat has always been with BSP and Congress.

Congress retained the seat

BJP has also suffered defeat in Badrinath assembly seat. Congress candidate Lakhpat Butola defeated BJP candidate Rajendra Bhandari by 5,224 votes from this seat. Lakhpat Butola got 28,161 votes and BJP’s Rajendra Bhandari got 22,937 votes. Congress had won this seat in the assembly elections held in the year 2022.

People taught a lesson to turncoats in Punjab

Mohinder Bhagat of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab defeated his nearest rival and BJP candidate Sheetal Angural by a margin of 37,325 votes in Jalandhar West seat. The seat fell vacant after Angural resigned as AAP MLA in March and joined the BJP. The public showed trust in the Aam Aadmi Party by teaching a lesson to the turncoat candidate.

DMK wins in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, Anniyur Siva of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) defeated Anbumani C of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) by 67,757 votes in the Vikravandi assembly seat. The NDA candidate faced a crushing defeat here.

TMC gets big victory in all four seats of Bengal

Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidates Krishna Kalyani, Madhuparna Thakur, Mukut Mani Adhikari won Raiganj, Bagdah, Ranaghat South seats respectively, while Supti Pandey won from the Maniktala seat. Supti Pandey defeated the BJP candidate by more than 60 thousand votes. In Raiganj of North Dinajpur district, Kalyani won by a margin of 50,077 votes over her nearest rival Manas Kumar Ghosh of the BJP. Kalyani got 86,479 votes while Ghosh got 36,402 votes.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member and Matua leader Mamatabala Thakur’s daughter Madhuparna Thakur defeated her BJP rival Binay Kumar Biswas by a margin of 33,455 votes in Bagdah assembly seat of North 24 Parganas district. Madhuparna Thakur got 1,07,706 votes, while Biswas got 74,251 votes. In Ranaghat South of North 24 Parganas, Trinamool Congress’ Mukut Mani Adhikari defeated BJP candidate Manoj Kumar Biswas by 39,048 votes. Adhikari got 1,13,533 votes while Biswas got 74,485 votes.

Congress wins 2 out of three seats in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s wife and Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur defeated BJP’s Hoshiar Singh by 9,399 votes in Dehra assembly seat. In Nalagarh, Congress’s Hardeep Singh Bawa defeated BJP’s KL Thakur by 25,618 votes.

NDA won these two seats

In Himachal, BJP has won Hamirpur seat. BJP candidate Ashish Sharma got 27,041 votes, while Congress’s Pushpinder Verma got 25,470 votes. Ashish Sharma defeated the Congress candidate by 1571 votes. At the same time, in Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara seat, BJP’s Kamlesh Pratap Shahi defeated Congress’s Dhiren Shah Invati by 3027 votes. This seat was earlier in the possession of Congress. Kamlesh Pratap Shahi had won on Congress ticket but later resigned and joined BJP. The people here have again expressed confidence in Kamlesh Pratap Shahi.

Independent candidate registered victory from Bihar’s Rupauli seat

In Bihar’s Rupauli assembly seat, both India Alliance and NDA had to face defeat. Independent candidate Shankar Singh defeated JDU’s Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by 8246 votes. RJD candidate Bima Bharti got 30619 votes and came third. Earlier, Bima Bharti was the MLA from here. She resigned and contested the Lok Sabha elections from Purnia on RJD ticket but was defeated badly there too. In this way, the public has made the turncoat candidate taste the defeat in Bihar too.
