Uttarakhand: Municipal elections will be held only after monsoon, the government has to give a timeline in the High Court on July 22

Municipal elections in the state will be held only after the monsoon. The government has started preparing for this. For this, the timeline of the municipal elections is also to be submitted in the High Court this month. All the work related to reservation will be completed during the monsoon period.

Elections are to be held in 99 municipal bodies in the state. Administrators have been posted in these bodies for about seven months. The matter is going on in the High Court regarding the delay in the elections. Now the government has to submit the timeline of the municipal elections in the High Court. According to the information, since there is damage in many places in the state during the monsoon season. Roads are getting closed. Therefore, the government wants to conduct the municipal elections only after the monsoon.

The State Election Commission will conduct the elections

The government’s aim is that maximum number of people should exercise their franchise. Therefore, it has been decided that the municipal elections should be held only after September 15. The government is also going to submit the timeline related to this in the High Court. On the other hand, the Act has been amended to implement reservation in the bodies.

The rules are also ready, which will be implemented soon. Accordingly, suggestions will be sought by issuing notifications to implement reservation from all the District Magistrates’ level. After the suggestions, the final notification will be issued. Only after this, the State Election Commission will conduct elections. Departmental officials say that this entire process will be completed in the monsoon season itself. So that elections can be conducted from 15 September to October.

Elections are not held in these bodies

There are three bodies in the state, where elections are not held due to being snow-covered areas. Elections will not be held this time also in Nagar Panchayat Badrinath in Chamoli district, Nagar Panchayat Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district and Nagar Panchayat Gangotri in Uttarkashi district. It is a different matter that lakhs of devotees visit these three Dhams every year. These three bodies operate under the administrative system.
