More than 4500 Indian students studying in Bangladesh returned home, students from Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives also reached India

More than 4,500 Indian students have returned home after violence broke out against reservation in Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Sunday that 500 students from Nepal, 38 from Bhutan and one from Maldives have also reached India from Bangladesh. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh is in regular contact with the local authorities to ensure the safety of Indian citizens.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, ‘So far more than 4,500 Indian students have returned to India. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna are assisting the return of Indians. The Ministry of External Affairs is also coordinating with the concerned authorities to ensure smooth movement of its citizens to the India-Bangladesh international border and airports.’

More than 8,000 students study in Bangladesh
The High Commission is coordinating with the civil aviation authorities and commercial airlines of Bangladesh to ensure the availability of flight services between India and Bangladesh. The Indian High Commission is in touch with the remaining Indian students and other Indians in various universities in Bangladesh.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that the total number of Indian citizens in Bangladesh is around 15 thousand, including 8,500 students. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has set up a helpline to help Tamils ​​stranded in Bangladesh. In view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force has increased vigilance on the India-Bangladesh border.
