India has slipped one place in the list of the world’s most powerful passports. India is ranked 82nd in the Henley Passport Index 2024 this time and Indian passport holders can get visa-free entry in 58 countries. Till last year, Indian passport holders could get visa-free entry in 61 countries. Due to the reduction in entry in three countries, India has slipped one place in this list.
103 rankings have been released in the index and according to this, the most powerful passport in the world is of Singapore. Singapore passport holders can get visa-free entry in 195 countries of the world. The weakest passport in the world is of Afghanistan. Pakistan’s situation is slightly better than Afghanistan and its passport is ranked 100 with visa-free entry in 33 countries.
France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Spain are jointly ranked second in the ranking of powerful passports and passport holders of these countries can travel visa-free to 192 places. Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea and Sweden are jointly at third place with 191 visa-free entries, while Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and Britain are at fourth place with 190 visa-free entries.
Superpower America at 8th place
Australia and Portugal are at fifth place in the list. Citizens of these places can go to 189 places without visa. The world’s superpower America is at eighth place in this ranking. Citizens holding its passport get visa-free entry to 186 places.
Ranking criteria
In the Henley Passport Index, a country is ranked on the basis of how many countries allow the respective passport to enter their country without visa. This is decided on the basis of the economy of the respective country, its strong relations with other countries and bilateral agreements. The passport of the country whose passport you can use to travel visa-free to the maximum number of destinations is considered the most powerful. This index is prepared on the basis of data released by the International Air Transport Association.
