Uttarakhand: Hearing in HC on Dehradun Sunday Market case, Municipal Corporation will have to submit report within 2 months

The matter of giving space near ISBT and the Municipal Corporation not cleaning it till now despite the court’s order to set up Dehradun Sunday Market (weekly Sunday market) was heard in the High Court. During the hearing today, the officials of the corporation appeared in the court. They said that it is rainy season now, so time should be given for its cleaning. On which the court gave them two months’ time.
The petition was filed by the President of Weekly Sunday Market Welfare Association
According to the case, the President of Weekly Sunday Market Welfare Association of Dehradun, Heera Lal, had filed a petition saying that he has been setting up a weekly market every Sunday since 2004 behind the Parade Ground of Dehradun and in front of the Tibetan Market.
In which more than three hundred people set up shops and have been paying rent of three hundred rupees per shop to the Municipal Corporation every month. In the year 2004, the district officer had given them this place to set up a Sunday market, but the Municipal Corporation, in collusion with the administration, citing the order passed in the PIL, has removed them from there and some people who reached there have also been given shops by the Municipal Corporation at other places.
Poor people get goods at cheaper rates
It was said in the petition that the entire market remains closed on Sundays and the traffic is also less, so they have been setting up weekly markets on Sundays behind the Parade Ground and in front of the Tibetan market. They have also been cleaning the place themselves. By setting up weekly markets, poor people get goods at cheaper rates and many people also get employment. They set up shops four days a month.
Place selected near ISBT Haridwar bypass
The committee also says that another committee in their name is running there in a fraudulent manner in connivance with the Municipal Corporation officials, which should be investigated and legal action should be taken against them. Earlier, the High Court, while giving a decision in their favor, had asked the Municipal Corporation to shift them to some other place. Following the court order, the corporation selected a place for them near ISBT Haridwar bypass, but till now the corporation has not even cleaned that place.
