Preeti Sudan becomes the new chairperson of UPSC, will replace Manoj Soni
Preeti Sudan, a 1983 batch IAS officer and former Union Health Secretary, has been appointed as the new chairman of UPSC. Preeti will take over as chairperson on Thursday, August 1. A month ago, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman Manoj Soni resigned before the end of his tenure. Let us tell you that Manoj Soni had resigned from his post citing personal reasons. Preeti Sudan has been working as a UPSC member since 2022.
Who is Preeti Sudan?
Preeti Sudan is a retired IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre (1983) batch. Her tenure as Union Health Secretary ended in July 2020. Apart from working in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Preeti has also worked in the Ministry of Defense. She was in charge of finance, planning, disaster management, tourism and agriculture in her cadre state Andhra Pradesh. Preeti Sudan has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank.
According to the information, Preeti Sudan has contributed to the creation of National Medical Commission, Allied Health Professional Commission and laws related to ban on e-cigarettes, apart from starting two major flagship programs in the country – ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and ‘Ayushman Bharat’.
