Uttarakhand: Animal husbandry and dairy development schemes should become the basis for the increase in GSDP, Dhami said – focus should be given on innovation in the successful implementation of the schemes

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, Fisheries and Sugarcane Development Department at the Secretariat on Wednesday. During the meeting, he directed the officials to work towards increasing the contribution of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development in the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from 03 percent to 05 percent in the next 03 years. For this, he also stressed on the rapid promotion of local products. He directed to prepare and present a complete action plan of the resources required to increase the GSDP in the field of animal husbandry and dairy development, along with building one model veterinary hospital in each district.

The Chief Minister directed that along with the successful implementation of the schemes, special attention should be paid towards innovation. Work should be done towards making the schemes more effective, so that the livelihood of the people increases at the local level and migration also stops. To improve the economy of the state in the field of dairy development and animal husbandry, the dependence on milk and milk products, poultry products imported from other states should be reduced. The establishment of Goat Valley, Poultry Valley and Broiler Farm has proved helpful in increasing the income of livestock farmers in the state. These schemes should be promoted more rapidly.

The Chief Minister directed that along with increasing milk production for dairy development in the state, work should be done rapidly towards promoting various milk products. Input production and delivery system should be strengthened for profitable income from milk production. The Chief Minister also directed to provide high quality fodder seeds to farmers through FPO and encourage them to produce green and dry fodder, as well as to establish more and more milk producer service centers in the state.

Production should be in accordance with the consumption of fish in the state – Chief Minister

During the review of the Fisheries Department, the Chief Minister directed that the production of trout fish should be promoted rapidly in the hilly areas. Appropriate arrangements should also be made for their sale. He said that it should be ensured that the fishermen get maximum benefit of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. To promote fisheries in the state more rapidly, targets should be set by the department, work should be done with timeliness by focusing on the targets. Efforts should also be made rapidly in this direction to produce fish in accordance with the consumption in the state. More and more fish farmers should also be linked to the Chief Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana. He said that by constructing ponds, fisheries can be promoted in them, while it will also prove helpful in the direction of water conservation. He said that ponds should be constructed by forming clusters and fisheries should be promoted through them.

Work should be done in the direction of modernization, efficiency and capacity increase of sugarcane mills – Chief Minister

During the review of the Sugarcane Development Department, the Chief Minister directed that the sugarcane mills should be rescued from losses. Work should be done in the direction of modernization, efficiency and capacity increase of sugarcane mills. Instructions have been given to complete the targets of sugarcane seed change in the state, sugarcane survey work through GPS and promotion of organic sugarcane production in the state as soon as possible. It should be ensured that the sugarcane price is paid to the farmers on time.

Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna informed that a campaign is being run to vaccinate animals on a large scale for animal health and disease control. Veterinary services are being provided at the doorstep of livestock owners through mobile veterinary units. Under the Chief Minister State Livestock Mission, this year, a target has been set to connect 611 families to the dairy business for the purchase of 3385 milch animals under dairy development and to provide goat and poultry farming to 4943 livestock owners. The burden of women has been reduced due to the easy availability of silage, fodder feed blocks in the mountainous areas. A target has been set to increase the participation of women in animal husbandry related works from 30 percent to 50 percent. He said that in the last 03 years, there has been an increase in milk procurement, balanced animal feed and silage sales. Goat Valley has benefited 3027 livestock owners in the state in one and a half years, of which 37 percent are women. There are 2622 poultry units established in the state. This year a target has been set to establish 1000 more units.

Purushottam, Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Additional Secretary Vijay Jogdande, Manoj Pant from Planning Department and concerned officials were present in the meeting.
