Actually, the 5-year term of panchayats is going to end in November. Elections are to be held in December for the posts of area panchayat and ward members including 7,795 gram panchayats and 400 district panchayat members. In such a situation, the panchayat representatives associated with the Uttarakhand Tri-Tier Panchayat Organization on Tuesday demonstrated by locking 89 block offices of the state demanding extension of the tenure of panchayats.
If the demand is not implemented, CM will march to residence
If the organization is to be believed, if the demand is not implemented, the panchayat representatives will march to CM residence on August 3. Meetings of three-tier panchayats could not be held in the state during Kovid in 2020-21. Due to which development work in village and district panchayat areas has been affected. The tenure of panchayats has been extended earlier as well. After the formation of the state, panchayat elections were to be held in 2001, but during that time the tenure was extended by one year, three months and 28 days.
Preparations to hold elections in 12 districts this year
The Panchayati Raj Minister had recently directed the Chief Secretary to extend the tenure of panchayats by two years. In which it was said that the three-tier panchayat elections should not be held in 2024-25 but in the year 2027 along with Haridwar district. Let us tell you that preparations are being made to hold elections in all the other 12 districts this year except Haridwar district.
