Kedarghati on high alert, Yatra stopped, stranded devotees rescued by helicopter

The yatra has been stopped after the massive destruction caused by cloudburst on the Kedarnath footpath. High alert has been issued in Kedarghati. The devotees stranded on the Kedarnath padyaal routes were rescued since morning. Some devotees were also rescued by helicopter.

NDRF, DDRF personnel were engaged in evacuating the devotees in Badi Lincholi. From the Kedarnath footpath to Gaurikund and Sonprayag Lincholi, the disaster has caused the most damage. The stranded passengers are being rescued by helicopter. The road and footpath are damaged. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also conducted an aerial survey of the disaster-affected areas due to heavy rains in Rudraprayag. During this, he reviewed the status of rescue and relief operations.

The water level of the Mandakini river has reached above the danger mark due to cloudburst near Lincholi between Junglechatti and Bhimbali on the Kedarnath footpath. Keeping safety in mind, the district administration evacuated the Gaurikund and Sonprayag markets late at night.

About 30 meters of the Taptkund and Kedarnath walking route has been washed away. As a precaution, 200 people have been accommodated in GMVN’s guest house and police post.

There is also information of a rock falling on the road between Gaurikund and Sonprayag. On the other hand, a couple Bhanu and Neelam died when a small hotel collapsed in Nautad Tok of Bhilangana block in Ghansali of Tehri. While a woman died when debris fell on a house in Rohida of Gairsain. On the other hand, two people have gone missing due to the collapse of a house in Belchori of Chamoli.
