Uttarakhand: 9 thousand devotees were rescued, more than a thousand are still stranded, rescue operation continues in Kedarnath on the fourth day

Rescue operation is being carried out for the fourth day on Sunday to save and evacuate them safely. So far more than 9 thousand devotees have been evacuated but still more than 1000 people are stranded in the areas of Kedarnath, Gaurikund and Sonprayag.

882 soldiers engaged in rescuing people

About 882 relief workers are engaged in rescuing people from the disaster in Kedarnath. The stranded people are being provided food and water by the soldiers. Also, as people are being evacuated, they are also being taken to a safe place. According to the officials, if the weather remains good, all the pilgrims and local people will be evacuated safely today. But due to bad weather in the area, rescue work is also becoming difficult.

Army will build a bridge in Sonprayag on Kedarnath Highway

Due to heavy rains and landslides, about 100 meters of road has been blocked here. Due to this, movement on both sides has stopped. Many pilgrims are stranded, whom SDRF is rescuing on foot through an alternative route. So far more than 7 thousand people have been evacuated from there. But if this bridge is built, it will help in evacuating people.

Air Force is helping

Air Force is also being used continuously to rescue the stranded people. Air Force’s Chinook and MI 17 helicopters have reached Gauchar on Friday morning to speed up the air lift. The Air Force had issued a statement saying, ‘Indian Air Force has started rescue operation from Kedarnath.

What is cloud burst?

Cloud burst or cloudburst means sudden very heavy rain in a limited area in a very short time. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, if there is 100 mm rainfall in an hour in an area of ​​20-30 square kilometers, then it is called cloud burst. In common parlance, heavy rainfall at one place is called cloud burst.

How does a cloud burst?

When clouds with a large amount of moisture gather at one place due to increase in temperature, the water droplets mix together, due to which the weight of the droplets becomes so much that the density of the cloud increases, due to which there is sudden heavy rain in a limited area, this is called cloud burst.

In terms of cloud burst incidents, two states of the country, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, are considered the most sensitive. Cloud burst has now become common during monsoon rains in these two hill states. According to experts, due to climate change, there is a possibility of a greater increase in cloud burst disasters in the coming years.
