Opposition in mood to fight it out with Chairman Dhankhar, will bring impeachment motion to remove him from the post

The opposition is preparing to bring an impeachment motion against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha under Article 67. In the Rajya Sabha on Friday, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan questioned the tone of Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar got angry and advised him to behave decently.

After this, the opposition members walked out shouting slogans of ‘Dadagiri Nahi Chalegi’. A censure motion was also passed in the Rajya Sabha, terming the conduct of the opposition as unruly. After the uproar and censure motion, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm.

What does Article 67 say?

Article 67 (b) says that the Vice President can be removed from his office by a resolution passed by a majority of all the then members of the Rajya Sabha and agreed to by the Lok Sabha. A notice of fourteen days should be given for this.

Where did the controversy start?

In fact, after the completion of the Zero Hour proceedings in Rajya Sabha, before the Question Hour began, the opposition raised the issue of the comment made by Ghanshyam Tiwari about Mallikarjun Kharge. Jairam Ramesh said that some objectionable things were said. On this, you had said that you will give a ruling. He asked what is that ruling? In response to this, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that both Mallikarjun Kharge and Ghanshyam Tiwari had come to my chamber. Each and every thing was looked into.

Jairam Ramesh raised the demand for apology

He said that Ghanshyam Tiwari had said that if there is anything objectionable, I am ready to apologize in the House. Kharge ji also agreed that there is nothing objectionable, I did not understand at that time. He said that Ghanshyam Tiwari had said the best things in praise of Mallikarjun Kharge. There was nothing objectionable. On this, Mallikarjun Kharge said that the House should also know these things. The Chairman said that Ghanshyam Tiwari spoke in parliamentary language.

Jairam Ramesh demanded an apology. On this, the Chairman said that no one apologizes for praise. He will not apologize. Pramod Tiwari said that he does not want to repeat the words that he had said. The tone was not right for the Leader of the Opposition. Jairam Ramesh said that there was an allegation of nepotism, there was talk of nepotism.

‘Why will you name him Sir?’

The Chairman said that if there is any issue, then give it in writing. The angry Chairman warned Jairam Ramesh of naming him. On this, Ajay Maken said that ‘Why will you name him Sir, I will name him to tell you one thing that happened with the Leader of the Opposition. You say – why are you laughing, why are you smiling, why are you sitting. I am saying with folded hands, please don’t behave like this.’

‘You may be a celebrity but you will have to maintain decorum’

On behalf of the opposition, Jaya Bachchan said, ‘I am an actor and understand body language and expressions. I am sorry sir, your tone is not right. We are colleagues, you are there. Your tone is unacceptable.’ On this, the Chairman got angry and said that Jayaji, you have achieved a great feat. You know that it is the subject of an actor and a director.

He said that I do not want to repeat it every day. The Chairman said that I do not want to school you every day. You are talking about my tone? It is too much. I will not tolerate it. He said that whoever you are, you will have to maintain decorum. You may be a celebrity but you will have to maintain decorum.
