Uttarakhand: Madrasas running illegally will be investigated, Child Rights Protection Commission wrote a letter to Principal Secretary Minority Welfare

Dr. Geeta Khanna, Chairperson of Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission, has directed the government to investigate the illegal madrasas running in the state. In a letter to the Principal Secretary Minority Welfare, she said, the madrasa in Dehradun where 30 children were reported to be ill, is neither registered with the Madrasa Board nor the Education Department.
The Commission said in a letter to the government, during inspection it was found that the madrasa has been running for the last 10-12 years. It was not found to be registered anywhere. It is run by the donations collected on Fridays. 55 children living in its hostel are of Bihar origin. When asked about the ill health of the children, no satisfactory answer was received. The Commission said, the presence of outside children in the madrasa is a matter of concern. A detailed investigation of the entire matter is required.
The Commission said, all such institutions in the state running for children in the name of minority welfare, which are not recognized by the concerned board, and which are not in accordance with the safety standards, should be verified and appropriate action should be taken. The Commission said, on May 13, 2024, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights also held a meeting of the department. After which the mapping of madrasas was done, but the facts were not fully revealed.
