Uttarakhand: Municipal elections may be held in the last week of October, the work of delimitation, survey and voter list will be completed by September 15

Municipal elections in the state will be held in the last week of October. The government has accelerated preparations with this timeline. All preparations from OBC reservation to delimitation of bodies etc. will be completed before September 15. After this, a letter will be sent to the State Election Commission. At the same time, the government has also accelerated the exercise to make Almora and Pithoragarh a municipal corporation before the civic elections. The tenure of Municipal Corporation, Nagar Palika and Nagar Panchayats in the state was completed on December 2 last year. The bodies were handed over to administrators for six months i.e. till June 2. Due to no elections in this period, the government had extended the period for three months. Meanwhile, the High Court orders came and the government has fixed the final timeline. Municipal elections will be held in the last week of October in the state. Before this, the work of rules etc. to implement OBC reservation will be completed by September 15.

The deadline to complete the work of delimitation of bodies, voter list has also been set by then. On the other hand, Secretary Urban Development Nitesh Jha said, preparations have been intensified to conduct civic elections within the stipulated time limit.

Leaders will celebrate Diwali before Diwali

Diwali will be celebrated on 29 October. Diwali of leaders of civic bodies will be celebrated before this. The government has decided that new boards will be formed in all the bodies before Diwali.

Delimitation of Doon Municipal Corporation within 15 days

The government has given clear instructions that the delimitation of 54 wards of Municipal Corporation Dehradun should be corrected within 15 days and sent to the government. The work of OBC reservation and voter list is also to be completed within this time limit, so that there is no obstacle in the civic elections.

Preparation to form two new municipal corporations

A letter has been sent to the District Magistrate from the government level to make Municipal Corporation Almora and Municipal Corporation Pithoragarh municipal corporations. The entire proposal regarding demarcation is to be sent to the government by the DM to make these bodies corporations. It is believed that the government will make them corporations before the elections. On the other hand, there will be some changes in the delimitation of Nagar Palika Ramnagar and Nagar Palika Karnaprayag. Some areas will be added or some will be removed. After the formation of two Nagar Nigams, there will be 11 Nagar Nigams in the state (Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Roorkee, Kotdwar, Srinagar, Haldwani, Kashipur, Rudrapur, Pithoragarh and Almora). The number of Nagar Palikas will be 41 and the number of Nagar Panchayats will be 50.

OBC reservation rules will come in the cabinet

The government had recently approved the amendment in the Act to implement OBC reservation. Now preparations are on to implement the rules to implement this amendment. The proposal of the rules will be brought in the upcoming cabinet, so that OBC reservation can be implemented within the stipulated time limit.
