After the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, the evidence was washed away by washing the clothes, yet how was the accused caught

Protests are being held demanding justice in the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor in a Kolkata hospital. Meanwhile, another new revelation has come to light in this case. It was revealed that the person arrested for the murder first returned to his home and then went to sleep. After this, the next morning he washed his clothes to destroy the evidence. An officer provided information about this. Although the accused made every effort to erase the evidence, despite this, the police have found blood stains on the accused’s shoes. The accused in this case is said to be a volunteer of the municipal body.

Blood stains found on the accused’s shoes

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal said, “After committing the crime, the accused went home and slept till late Friday morning. After waking up, he washed the clothes worn during the crime to destroy the evidence. During the search, his shoes were found, which had blood stains on them.” When asked whether anyone else was involved in this crime as some people are alleging, he said, “There is no evidence of this yet.” Goyal said that the police is waiting for the final post-mortem report as they want to match it with the findings of their investigation. A police source said that a team of police officers from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) along with the forensic unit collected samples from the seminar hall of the hospital on Sunday.

How the accused was caught by the police

The police had found a Bluetooth headphone at the crime scene. Due to this Bluetooth headphone, the police was able to reach the accused. Actually, the Bluetooth headphone belonged to the accused. It became the main evidence against him in this case. Apart from this, the possible time of the incident was also seen in the CCTV footage. The police have also collected other evidence from the crime scene. The biggest evidence has been found so far against Sanjay Roy, the accused of rape and murder. The blood and skin found in the nails of the victim belong to the accused Sanjay Roy.

A senior police officer said that the victim struggled and resisted even while half asleep. During this struggle, the accused suffered deep injuries and scratches on his hands. Which proved to be a big lead in this case. The post-mortem report states that the death was due to strangulation and suffocation. There are injury marks on the victim’s face, eyes and neck. An officer said, “There is no evidence of the victim and the accused knowing each other”, but he said that this matter is still being investigated. The police said that they have come to know that the victim had a fight with someone a few months ago, but that person was the accused Sanjay. Nothing can be said about this right now.

Which mystery is the police still trying to solve

On the basis of the evidence collected, the SIT wants to know whether the injuries on the victim’s body were caused by Roy alone or whether someone else was also present with him. This question remains a puzzle for the victim’s friends and family as well. “We had asked the (additional) police commissioner if there was someone else involved. We have been told that the police are investigating that aspect as well,” the victim’s father told the media after meeting the additional commissioner of police at his home. Commissioner Goyal also requested the students to “inform us if you think someone is involved”, promising to investigate all such claims. He also asked the students to be wary of several rumours that were doing the rounds.

What the preliminary post-mortem report revealed

The preliminary post-mortem report said the victim was bleeding from her eyes, mouth and private parts. She also had injuries on her left leg, neck, hand, and lips. Another police officer said circumstantial evidence also pointed to the possibility that the doctor was first murdered and then raped. “We are also speaking to those on duty from Thursday night to the next morning. CCTV footage is also being examined,” the police officer said. The police also recreated the crime scene.
