PT Usha gave a big statement on Vinesh’s case, said- the responsibility of weight is of the athlete and the coach

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat being disqualified before the final has remained in the discussion after the end of the Olympics. She was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight than the category. Now Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha has given a big statement on this issue. She said that the responsibility of controlling the weight lies with the athlete and his coach. It is not right to blame the medical team for this.

In fact, Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified before the final of the women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling. After this, she appealed to the Sports Tribunal to give a joint silver medal. The decision on this matter will now be given by 6 pm on Tuesday, August 13. At the same time, after being out before the final, Vinesh announced her retirement on social media. After the disqualification of the female wrestler, a section on social media is accusing the IOA medical team, especially Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team, of negligence.

Now IOA President PT Usha has spoken openly on this matter. She said, “In sports like wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, the responsibility of weight management of athletes lies with each athlete and his coach, not with IOA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team. Hatred towards the IOA medical team, especially Dr. Pardiwala, is unacceptable. We will consider all the facts before reaching any conclusion.” Usha further said, “At the Paris Olympics, every Indian athlete had his own support team in such a sport. These teams have been working with the athletes for many years. The IOA appointed a medical team a few months ago, which will help in the recovery and injury management of athletes during and after the competition. This team was also formed to help those athletes who did not have their own teams of nutritionists and physiotherapists.”

Vinesh was replaced by Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman Lopez in the final, who had lost to her in the semi-finals. In her appeal, the Indian wrestler has demanded a joint silver medal with Lopez as her weight was within the prescribed limit during her bouts on Tuesday.
